My Preaching Work in Nigeria and Ghana in 2025

By Osamagbe Lesley Egharevba

Preamble

In October, 2025, I had the opportunity to host Chris Reeves (an American preacher and friend) in Lagos, Nigeria and to work with him in both Nigeria and Ghana, preaching the gospel for a few days from 22nd to 27th of October, 2025. Brother Reeves and I first began correspondence on the 3rd of October, 2023 when he reached out to me via email that he received a link to my website and journal (Unmasking Sophistry) from his friend (Wayne Seaton) and was impressed with my work. This connection opened up opportunities for me to travel and preach in Ghana for six weeks in 2024 and in Zimbabwe for three weeks in 2025. Brother Reeves’ preaching work in Africa has mostly been focused in Ghana, but as he planned his 2025 trip to Ghana, he wanted to stop in Nigeria to see me and to work with me before going to Ghana. This worked out so well as God made everything successful. This writing is a report of the trip.

Chris Reeves’ Arrival in Nigeria

Chris Reeves came into Nigeria on Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025. At about 10:15pm, his plane landed Murtala Mohammed International Airport and I was there to pick him up. Upon arrival, we drove to a hotel around the airport where we lodged for the night. The next morning (Thursday, the 23rd), brother Manny Ebong came to the hotel to visit with us for a while before we departed Ikeja. Manny is a Nigerian preacher in Lagos who had gone to school with Chris in the USA. The last time Chris saw Manny was in 1985 and Chris wanted to meet him again.

At around 11:30am, we left the hotel in Ikeja for Epe (the town where I preach). On our way to Epe, we stopped at Ibeju in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos to see my parents (Julius and Veronica Egharevba) at their home. After we met them, we moved to Epe and checked into the hotel where Chris was lodged for the next two days. At around 5pm of the same day, Chris and I visited the family of Godwin and Phoebe Obaro to have a Bible study with them. Sister Phoebe Obaro is a faithful sister worshipping with the church of Christ in Epe, Lagos. However, the husband is a Catholic and has been attending our services in Epe church of Christ but is yet to be baptized. Chris had a very good study with him that evening and Godwin decided to be baptized.

The next morning (Friday, the 24th), we drove to Yemoji natural swimming pool close to Epe to baptize Godwin. Brothers Niyi Omoyele and Isaac Oladipupo were also with us at the baptism. I baptized Brother Godwin and we were all excited and thankful to God for the addition of the soul to His church.

After the baptism, Chris and I went to the radio station (GUTS 104.9 FM) where I regularly do a live radio broadcast every Saturday at 7pm preaching the gospel. Since Chris and I would be travelling the following day to Ghana and I would not be available for the live broadcast, I thought it was good for us to record the programme so it could be played at 7pm the next day (on Saturday). Chris and I recorded three episodes that morning dealing on the questions of whether or not Christianity originated in America, whether babies are born sinners and the New Testament Christians vs. denominational Christians. Mr. Daniel Okoro, a young Catholic gentleman was our driver throughout the trip in Nigeria. Chris had engaged Daniel in Bible studies at different times. One of the occasions was at the radio station while waiting for the studio to be set up for our recording. Chris engaged Daniel in a Bible study concerning Catholicism and God’s plan of salvation. Chris had also invited Daniel the previous day to attend the lectureship on Friday and Daniel agreed to come.

In the afternoon, we visited my parents’ house to have lunch. Manny Ebong and wife also visited with us. David Ojeifo, my good friend (who was with me at the airport in my erstwhile trip to Zimbabwe) also visited with us and was present at the lectureship in the evening. We all took group pictures after the meal.

In the evening of that day, we had a gospel lectureship at the church of Christ in Ibeju Lekki, where my dad (Julius Egharevba) preaches. There were over eighty 80 people in attendance. Chris spoke on the following topics: Is America the founder of Christianity; Why are some Americans teaching heresy, and what must I do to be saved? I also spoke for some minutes on Bible examples that show that we must DO something before we are saved. The lectureship went very well and well attended.

The next morning (Saturday, October 25th), Chris and I left Epe for Murtala Mohammed International Airport. We got to the airport at about 11am and we departed Lagos at 1:40pm and arrived Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana in about an hour. Benjamin Nkrumah, a gospel preacher in Ghana picked us up at the airport and we went to have some lunch and then went to the hotel where we were lodged.

In the evening of that day, I spoke at the Sun City church of Christ in Buduburam on the difference between the local church and individual responsibilities, showing clearly from the scriptures the distinction between both (I Timothy 5:16; Matthew 18:15-17). Benjamin Nkrumah is the preacher at the Sun City church of Christ. In my erstwhile trip to Ghana, my last few days were spent at this congregation and it was great meeting the brethren again.

On Sunday, October 26th, Chris and I worshipped with the Agape Top church of Christ in Accra area. At this congregation, Chris did the teaching while I did the sermon. Chris gave an excellent lesson on the topic “If your Bible could talk” while I spoke on I Corinthians 15:58 – always abounding in the work of the Lord. In the afternoon, there was a men’s class where Chris spoke on “Get a busy man.”

On Monday, October 27th, I had a Bible study with a young man named Julius Osei Dwomoh at his house. He attends the Catholic church and I studied with him on why he needs to become a New Testament Christian. I showed that many of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church are in clear contradiction to the Scriptures such as baptizing infants (Mark 16:16), having Mary as a mediator (I Timothy 2:5), having one bishop over many churches (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5-9) etc. and that several other teachings (such as purgatory, Pope, etc.) are not even found in the scriptures at all. He understood the lesson and promised to think about them and Benjamin Nkrumah promised to do a follow up. Chris also had a study with a young man named Francis Brown about becoming a Christian. In the afternoon, we visited a widow named Margaret Korang at her house to encourage her. She is a member of the Sun City church of Christ. In the evening of that day, I preached again at the Sun City church of Christ on the topic of church growth while Chris preached at the Stone Quarry church on Paul’s prayers for the churches.

On Tuesday, October 28th, I went to Kotoka International Airport to return to Lagos. Benjamin Nkrumah and Chris Reeves accompanied me to the airport. My flight departed Accra at around 11am (Ghana time) and got to Lagos in about an hour. It was a wonderful journey and I am thankful for God for the opportunity and strength to do His work. May He receive all the glory. Amen.
